Petrol Station Manager Wants Probe Of Fire Outbreak
Following the bomb
explosion which later resulted in a fire outbreak at a petrol station along Rumuogholu, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Monday night, the management of DKG Integrated Services Petrol Station has called for a proper investigation into the accident.
The Manager, DKG Integrated Services, Mr Shokeyo Ganiyu, who made the call while conducting journalists round the affected part of the petrol station yesterday said it was necessary for the state police command and security agencies to investigate and know the remote cause of the fire outbreak that gutted some part of the filling station.
Ganiyu claimed that property worth over a million naira were lost to the inferno, stating that he suspected sabotage.
According to him, ‘’the cause of the fire was not known but that the fire might have resulted from an alleged chemical substance that was thrown into the compound through the backyard of the premises at about 9.00p.m.
The manager explained that a private security guard first noticed the fire before raising alarm.
“The alarm made those of us who were around to struggle to put off the inferno.
‘’The security man told me that he suspected some movement behind the building of the petrol station not before long, a substance suspected to be explosive which ignited the fire. I felt it was explosion because of the big sound which later resulted to flame and fire at the same time’’, he said.
Ganiyu however commended the efforts and assistance from neighbors who helped to put off the fire, adding that proper investigation would assist prevent future occurrence and bring to book those behind the action.
“ The fire outbreak happened when we were rounding up the day’s job. The security guard raised alarm of fire, before we could get there, some part of the station was on fire and with the help of the people we were able to put off the fire before the anti cultism team called the fire fighters who later came to the scene’’.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the petrol station, Dr Gabriel Dike who condemned the unfortunate incident, confirmed that it was a sabotage, but could not determine if it was targeted at him by his political enemies.
Dr Dike explained that similar incident occurred at his Family house at No No 10 Obudu Street, Mile 1, Diobu, three years ago.
According to him, ‘’that incident took the life of an old man, and my uncle, the Nyenwe Eli Rumuoji; Chief John Dike who was 119 years then was rescued by some sympathisers’’.
He confirmed that they were making efforts to formally write to the security agencies for a proper probe into the fire outbreak.
The fire out break cannot be a mystery, somebody somewhere must have thrown in a substance that resulted to the fire outbreak”, he said.
