To avoid being disqualified
from the taekwondo event of the 2nd National Youth Games (NYG), Secretary, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Sunny Obot, has urged state associations to comply with the competitions rules.
The Tidesports source reports that taekwondo is part the sports to feature in the 2016 edition of NYG scheduled for September 22 to Sept. 30 in Ilorin, Kwara.
Obot told newsmen that the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Games had directed that state athletes must come with their personal kits such as Electronic Sucks, Complementary Heels, Arm and Mouth Guards.
He named others as Groin Guard (male and female), Breast Guard, Kick Shoes, Head Gears, e-Protector and taekwondo fighting uniform, adding that they were compulsory for competitors.
“This information is to guide states preparing to feature athletes for the taekwondo event in the Games and it’s a compulsory requirement for participation.
“State athletes who do not have full kits will not be allowed to take part in the competition, therefore they must be prepared when coming to avoid disappointment,’’ he said.
He noted that each state was expected to present two boys and two girls for specified categories making four athletes per state, bringing the total to148 athletes in taekwondo.
According to him, the final acceptable weights for the Games as approved by the LOC in the male category were -48kg and -55kg and -46kg and -49kg for the females.
The Games would feature the following Athletics, Badminton, Chess, Cricket, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo and Wrestling.
