Ugwuanyi Tasks Muslims On Peace, Unity
Governor Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, has urged Muslims faithful and Nigerians in general to take advantage of the spiritual rebirth that Ramadan represents to promote love, peace and justice.
“Nigerians should use this important celebration to reflect on the importance of unity in the country,’’ Ugwuanyi said in an Eid-el-Fitri message in Enugu.
The governor noted that the significance of the Muslim festival was enormous and compelling for all Nigerians to embrace one another and affirm the trust of our founding fathers.
“It is only when Nigerians live in peace and harmony as well as appreciate one another that we can strengthen the bond that brought us together as a nation,’’ he said.
Ugwuanyi enjoined all Muslims faithful and Nigerians to continue to offer special prayers for the unity and progress of the country, especially in this moment of economic recession.
The governor, however, felicitated with President Muhammadu Buhari and other Muslims faithful on this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Similarly, Speaker, Ogun House of Assembly, Malam Suraj Adekunbi, has called on Muslims to always reflect on the essence of Ramadan even after the fasting.
The speaker said this in a statement signed by his special adviser on media, Mr Waheed Akinola, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.
He urged Muslims across the country to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, patience, perseverance and selflessness, which were the true reflections of the teaching of the Holy month of Ramadan.
Adekunbi was quoted as saying that the state and the nation at this critical period of economic downturn required the support of all and sundry.
The lawmaker appealed to Nigerians both Christians and Muslims to continue to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, saying that they would deliver on their social contract with the people.
He enjoined the people of Ogun to continue to support the government towards achieving the success of the rebuilding mission.
“I wish the Muslims community and the entire people of the state many more fruitful years, “he said.
