The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers State and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers have shut operations of Caverton Helicopters in Port-Harcourt over unresolved industrial issues between management of the company and its workers.
The TUC Chairman in Rivers State, Comrade Chika Onuegbu, said the action was in solidarity with workers of the company who are members of its affiliate union, the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers who are being owed three months salaries by the aircraft service company.
He accused the management of the company of also failing to remit taxes and pensions deducted from the workers’ salaries to the appropriate quarters.
The National Vice President of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, Abioye Babatunde, accused the management of Caverton Helicopters of giving preferential treatment to foreigners working in the company against their Nigerian counterparts.
The Tide correspondent reports that top management officials of the Caverton Helicopters, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the issues are currently being addressed at its headquarters in Lagos.
