Power Disconnection: Association Threatens To Sue Estate Management
The Residents Associa
tion of Clobek Crown Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, has threatened to sue the estate management over electricity disconnection.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Oliver Otonyo, made this known newsmen in Abuja recently.
Otonyo alleged that the estate management disconnected the occupants of the estate from the national grid and forced them to be connected to a central generating system, which attracted exorbitant service charges.
According to him, we don’t know the connectivity between the central generating set cable and that of the PHCN cable, we discovered that anytime there is PHCN light, we will still don’t have light.
His words: “The two generators have packed up for a while which has made us not to have light for some time now. We are paying N2, 727. 27k bill monthly per house to PHCN for the light we don’t use.
“The monthly payment to PHCN is different from the payment of maintenance of the generators set we also pay monthly. We are also paying N3, 636.36 monthly for the maintenance of the street light.
“We are also paying N1. 212. 12k for electric fence and N3, 000 for each house for water bill which also need electricity to pump.
“We are calling on the estate management to allow the individuals use their personal generator instead of the central generating power.
“We are also calling on the management to allow the association generate its source of electricity from PHCN instead of the central generator that doesn’t supply the light as at when due,” Otonyo said.
The chairman said that the estate occupants were supposed to have two electricity power connections, one from the national grid, while the other from the central generating set if the plan must work.
“The estate management has hidden agenda; this is why it has denied the occupants to manage themselves in terms of power generation from PHCN. We have had several meetings with the management to allow peace to reign but they will not.
“We cannot live in Nigeria and be treated as foreigners for no just cause, we are ready to go with PHCN and forget about the central generating power.
“We are paying high for generator meter instead of PHCN meter, this must stop and that is why we are calling on the press for the management to know our stance,” he said.
