The gap which seems to
be existing overtime between Imo State media practitioners and the executive governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has been brought to a close as a lengthy deliberation that lasted for over four hours was held between the parties, recently, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat along Port-Harcourt Road, Owerri.
The interaction which started at about 12:45p.m and ended at about 4:05pm had all the Publishers, Editors and Reporters in attendance.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the NUJ chairman, Sir Innocent Igwe, commended the governor for initiating such a meeting once again.
He thanked the governor for assisting the journalists in renovating their dilapidated secretariat and advised that most of the supposed attacks by the media against the ruling state government were to reposition and strengthen its activities for the good of the people.
He appealed to the governor to assist practicing journalists with the on-going agricultural loans from the federal government so as to give them a sense of the belonging.
In his own contribution, the governor advised the media to be objective in their reportage, other than criticizing destructively the government.
He pointed out his intention to bring a radical change in the state for which he would be remembered, emphasizing that Eke-Ukwu Owerri Market, Artisans, Mechanics and the Street Sellers would soon be relocated to the government approved locations.
The governor also used the avenue to inform the journalists that he had introduced a new taxi scheme with 500 taxes to sanitize the transport system in Imo State.
He promised to carry all the journalists along in the execution of the government projects.
