NWFL: Second Stanza Kicks-Off, July 30
The second Stanza of the
Nigeria Women Football League (NWPL) will commence on July 30, with Rivers Angels visiting capital Doves City Football Club in Abuja, for the week ten (10) fixtures.
This was disclosed Wednesday by the head coach of the team Edwin Okon during an interview with Tidesports at resumption of training for the second round of the league.
According, to Coach Edwin, the team walked-over their Abuja counterparts capital City Doves, after the Abuja-based side failed to show up for their meek nine (9) encounter of the Nigeria Women Football League at the Yakubu Gowon stadium, Port Harcourt.
He said that he has discouraged with the number of walk-over games in the League this season.
“I am not happy about it I think there is a fine attached to it and the league body should carry out the fine of N5,000,00”, Okon lamented.
“They should endeavour to see that these clubs pay the fines so others will not repeat the same thing again. It is discouraging when teams fail to show up”, he added.
So far there have been eight walk-over games in the Nigeria Women football League this season.
The former Falcons gaffer also believes it discourages fans from turning out for Women League games.
It is not about the points but it is the beauty of the League. Look at people coming to watch the match and at the end of the day you hear one team is not there.
“But if NFF and the League body are serious about it, I think all clubs will sit up if these fines are enforced because, by the time you N5,000,00, you will make sure you honour your next game”, Okon said.
Consequently, the league Champions were awarded three points with three goals to boot. Rivers Angels still top Group B with 20 points from eight (8) games.
It would be recalled that the players resumed Wednesday from their two days rest after the first Stanza of the league ended at the weekend.
