New Militant Group Vows To Ground Oil Production
A new militant group, the
Ultimate Warriors of Niger Delta, has issued a threat to the Federal Government that it would ground oil production in the country.
The groupwhich issued its threat on Saturday, said it had nothing to lose if oil production which is the main economic stay of the nation is disrupted.
The group in its statement accused the Federal Government of not being sincere with its proposed dialogue on the development of the region that had resulted in series of bombing of oil installations.
“We have said it before that we have nothing to lose on the bombing of oil pipelines because our mission is to ground the oil economy if our demands are not met.
“We have said, we are doing what we doing to prod the government to negotiate the control of our oil resources and other related matters”, it said.
The group noted that it had watched with chagrin the recent utterances by both President Muhammadu Buhari and vice President, Yemi Osinbajo describing the utterances as double standard and lips service to Niger Delta question.
Today, the President will say something, tomorrow his deputy and some of their dishonest and selfish lieutenants will contradict him and that only show how confused and unserious the government is about the problems and how to deal with them,” the group stated, stressing that the unclear vision of government made the units and affiliates of the Niger Delta militants not to heed the ceasefire.
The new group warned the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) stop parading itself to as leader of militant groups in Niger Delta.
Meanwhile, MEND in its own statement had called on militants, activist and other agitators to be united in finding a solution to the region’s crisis.
According to MEND, it was better to speak with one voice and channel grievances and demands to the Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group (NDDCG)
It expressed the need to speak through a single umbrella of the ‘Aaron Team 2 Dialogue and Peace Initiative’ led by Mr Odein Ajumogobia (SAN).
