The Enugu State Post
Primary School Management Board (PPSMB) has sanctioned 45 school principals for gross misconduct.
The Chairman of the board, Mr Nestor Ezema, told newsmen in Enugu that the principals had been placed on an indefinite suspension.
The chairman said that some principals engaged their students as labourers in their private farms from morning to evening thereby preventing them from their studies for the whole day.
Ezema who said he was just seven months in office said that he was facing a lot of pressures from people to  recall the principals.
The chairman said that 30 per cent of his workers presented age declaration instead of normal birth certificate when they were employed.
He said that the duty of the board was to monitor and supervise schools, stressing that with the ongoing exercise, sanity would return to the board.
The chairman, who said the board under his leadership met the system in total collapse, however, stated he had been able to restore sanity to the system.
“Teachers now come to work and take their work very seriously. I have mandated all students to belong to one society or the other to boost their academic excellence and focus.
“One of the challenges students are facing is that most of them now believed that examination malpractice is the best instead of studying hard.
“Due to a series of challenges discovered by the board, we now appoint principals on grade level 16 based on merit and hard work.
“The case of ghost workers is another serious problem facing the board. We discovered 212 ghost workers in the system and they have been sacked.”
Ezema said that the board would organise an in-house workshop for the teachers in the state during the long vacation.
