A retired education
ist, Mrs. Bridget Daniel, has called on governments at all levels  to prevail on schools to own farms.
Daniel, who spoke to our correspondent on Monday in Port Harcourt said the return of school farming would go  a long way in curbing cultisim and idleness among pupils and students.
According to her, before and after the Nigerian, Civil War, schools had farms that engage both pupils, students and teachers alike.
She said such arrangement inculcated the habit of hardwork  in the pupils both in their class work and the farm.
Daniel further explained that the loss of interest in  school farming had contributed much in eroding the family unit system  even at the rural level.
While welcoming the recent policy by the Rivers State  Government to re-introduce  farming in schools, she advised that the exercise should not be selective.
According to her, selecting few government-owned schools for the exercise should be discouraged.
Rather, she continued, government should  make it mandatory for school heads to key into the programme taking into consideration each school’s comparative advantage.
