RSG Denies Approval To Non-ICT Compliant Private Schools

Government has said that, it would not give approval to any private school in the state without an Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Laboratory.
The Commissioner for Education Professor Kaniye Ebeku who said this at the Girls in ICT 2016 organised by Mind Africa Leadership Initiative in Port Harcourt, said that the decision was in line with the new National Policy on Education.
The Commissioner also said that the Government had taken steps to ensure that all primary and model secondary schools in the state are fully equipped with the necessary computers.
Represented by Emmanuel KarlDick Jamabo, Director ICT Ministry of Education, Professor Ebeku stressed the need for the private sector to join the government to promote ICT in all schools in the state.
He commended Mind Africa Leadership Initiative for promoting ICT among female students in the state and urged other organisations to emulate it.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, Director Science and Technology Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr. (Mrs) Ataisi Sampson Ngerebara said that the Rivers State Government was making effort to improve the teaching and learning of ICT in schools.
Dr. (Mrs) Ngerebara said that the economy would be boosted if the nation is ICT compliant, and called on the participating schools to key into the programme to improve their standard.
In her lecture entitled, “Internet Safety”, Mrs Comfort Benjamin urged for secrecy while browsing the internet.
Mrs Benjamin urged the students to desist from giving their password to strangers as well as opening strange mails.
She also warned them against chatting with anyone on facebook as well as meeting strange people.
The Executive Director of Mind Africa Leadership Initiative, Miss Olere Iluebbey said that the celebration was to inspire female children to be ICT compliant.
Miss Iluebbey said that over 200 female students from eight secondary schools were attending the programme and disclosed plans to include more schools in the programme next year.
