The Rivers State Gover
nor, Chief Nyesom  Wike, has been called on initiate  Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competition for secondary school students in the state in order to enable them to fully exploit the ICT world.
The President, Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDEAV), Comrade Christian Lekia, made  this known  in an  interview  with newsmen Tuesday,  in Port Harcourt.
He said the call became imperative due to the high level of ICT development in the world.
Lekia noted that ICT  has come to stay and has all potentials to replace the oil industry.
The Niger Delta Crusader, said an early preparation  of Rivers Students in that regard would place  them at a vantage  position over their peers.
The  competition he said, should come  in two  categories for those in the junior and senior secondary  level.
While those at the senior level should be competing for programme development and other tools, he said those in  the junior category should settle for basic tools competition in computer.
He maintained  that an early exposure of the school children would enable them to also consider the need of taking it as a major course at the tertirary school level.
He cautioned against being partisan with the competition, saying that a level playing field should be provided for all.
Meanwhile, he has also appealed  with the governor to take a critical look at the state’s  ICT Department  and  amendments where necessary.
