Rural Areas: Residents Charge RSG On Roads Construction
As the Rivers State Gov
ernor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, promised to construct rural and semi-urban roads across the state from this January 2016, some residents of Port Harcourt and its environs have appealed for its flag-off.
The residents, who described the planned project as a right step in the right direction told our correspondent in Port Harcourt that the project when completed would give the city a face-lift.
They said the city needed rehabilitation of internal roads, as to reduce the traffic on the major roads, adding that it is one project that the present government under Governor Nyesom Wike should ensure its implementation to the latter.
Some of the residents said since most of the major roads in the state have been reconstructed or rehabilitated, the government should also consider that of the rural and semi-urban roads, so that the people would feel the dividends of democracy.
A resident of Oginigba in Obio/Akpor Local Government, Madam Cecilia Amadi, said “the governor had done well in road construction and his promise to construct rural and semi-urban roads across the state will give the people a sense of belonging”.
She called for its immediate take-off to give the people a relief and ease transportation.
A petty trader, Sampson Onyema said the construction of rural and semi-urban roads as promised by government is a welcome development that would give the city a face-lift, urging the government to match word, with action by fulfilling their promises to the people.
It would be recalled that Governor Wike had promised that majority of Rivers communities would completely transform the infrastructural base of the state during his first term in office, and disclosed that the dualisation of the Sakpenwa-Kpopie-Bori Road will also kick-off this year.
