FRSC Nabs 416 Traffic Offenders

sector of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said that 416 motorists were arrested for traffic offences during the 2015 special Christmas and New Year patrols.
The Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Ajayi, told nesmen in Awka that the figure was in contrast with the 605 arrests for 637 offences during the corresponding period in 2014.
Ajayi noted that 21 deaths were recorded in 21 accidents during the period as against 27 deaths in the previous year.
The commander, however, described the exercise as successful in spite of the challenges, adding that the sector was already strategising to sustain its level of traffic management.
“The special patrol was successful and we are already putting measures to ensure that the high level of sanity is sustained.
“The statistics show that there is significant reduction in deaths and arrests; it is in line with our mandate to reduce road traffic fatalities to the barest minimum.
“So we are working toward building on the feat achieved,” he said.
The commander also thanked God for the safety of the personnel during the out gone year and prayed for a successful and casualty-free 2016.
The special Christmas and New Year traffic control which began on December15, 2015 will end on January 13.
