RIVCAS On Verge Of History – Provost
Acting Provost of the
Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS), Dr Sam Kalagbor says the institution is on the path of making history following the commencement of processes to change its name to a Polytechnic.
He made the declaration recently, shortly after a familiarisation visit to the institution by the Permanent Secretary of Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr Patricia Ogbomaya and her team.
“RIVCAS is on the historical journey, and part of the principal element of the journey is the change of the name to a Polytechnic”, he said.
The Acting Provost’s declaration was sequel to an explanation by the Permanent Secretary that the reason for the visit was to liase with management of the school towards what modalities to put in place to turn the school into a Polytechnic.
The Permanent secretary who was represented by the Director, Higher Education in the Ministry, Mr Lawrence Obomany, the Provost said, they came to familiarize with management of the institution and for us to avoid them of our challenges in terms of our needs with respect to infrastructural development.
He explained that the visit was also intended to ascertain facilities on ground and how the ministry can contribute in the development of the school to enhance accreditation of courses among others.
On his part, the representative of the Permanent Secretary acknowledged the fact that the school needed classes and equipment.
He assured that the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike was also aware of the challenges faced by the school, which was why “money was approved to the institution to improve the school”.
