Silver Medallist Sure To Make Olympics List
A 200m Silver medallist
at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Oregon, Divine Oduduru, on Saturday said he was not scared of the Olympics standard set by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
The Tidesports reports that the AFN standard for athletes that intend to compete in the 100m men event is 10.09secs, while the one for the 100m women event is 11.10secs.
For the 200m, the men must make it in 20.20secs and the women 22.50secs, while in the 400m, the entry standard is 45.20secs for men and 50.90secs for women.
The standard must be achieved between January. 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016.
Oduduru, presently at the AFN High Performance Centre, University of Port Harcourt told newsmen that he wished to surpass the standard.
He said that he was optimistic of participating at the Olympics next year.
“I am going to meet the standard set by AFN; I am not scared. If things work out well, I will see myself at the Olympics next year by God’s grace.
“I am going there to do my best and I pray that God rewards my effort in training with success,” he said.
Oduduru, a gold medallist at the maiden African Youth Athletics Championships (AYAC) said he would be elated if he qualified, saying he would strive to win a medal in Rio.
