SDP To Appeal Tribunal’s Ruling On Wike
The governorship can
didate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the April 11 governorship election in Rivers State, Rev. Minaibim Harry, has vowed to appeal the ruling of the Justice Muazu Pindiga-led Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, dismissing his three petitions against the election of Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Rev. Harry, who gave the indication on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said the tribunal’s judgement was out of justice and vowed that he would continue to challenge the outcome of the election in court until justice is done.
It would be recalled that, the tribunal in Abuja recently struck out the three petitions filed by Rev. Harry challenging the election of Governor Wike on the ground that the petition lacked merit and could not be entertained by the tribunal.
Rev. Harry described the dismissal of his petitions at the preliminary stage as a jungle justice, alleging that governorship election did not take place in virtually all parts of the state.
According to him, he would have won if the election had taken place in a fair and violence-free contest.
He commended his supporters for their steadfastness and belief in democracy, expressing optimism that justice would surely prevail.
The SDP chieftain also stressed the need for a violence-free election in the state, and called for judicial inquiries into the elections with a view to prosecuting any person or group found culpable of violence and election malpractices in the state to serve as a deterent to others in future elections.
