Ex-Mayor Advises The Youth On Politics
The former Mayor of Port
Harcourt, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, has charged youths of Rivers State not to make politics their first career choice in life but to consider other alternative economic engagements that could sustain them in future.
The former Mayor gave this advice last Saturday in Port Harcourt when the In-house Forum, a political pressure group comprising youths of the various wards in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area paid him a special visit during his 62 birthday celebration.
Nmerukini, who is the current Chairman, Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, said although politics is good, it is imperative for youth to be meaningfully engaged in one career or the other than politics, noting that there are a lot of ups and downs in politics.
According to him, unless one plans his life very well, there may be nothing for him to fall back on when the challenges come.
Nmerukini urged the youths to design viable means of empowering themselves economically and prepare for future.
He commended the forum for the honour done him and assured them of his humble support.
Earlier, the leader of the forum, Hon Endurance Elenwo, described Chief Nmerukini as their political mentor and said the group thought it wise to honour the former Mayor with the visit as a mark of felicitating with him on his 62 birthday.
On his part, a member of CTC incharge of Youths and Sports Development in PHALGA, Hon Eric Ejigini described Nmerukini as a political hero and source of inspiration to youths of PHALGA.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of a portrait to Chief Nmerukini by the group as a birthday gift.
