Producer Of Fake Olive Oil Nabbed In Anambra
The Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a female, Gloria Sunday, for allegedly producing fake Olive Oil in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra.
Presenting the suspect to newsmen in Awka, the state NSCDC Commandant, Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) Ben Dikuro, said the suspect specialised in adulteration of GOYA Olive Oil.
According to him, the suspect was arrested on June 12 at No. 9 Agulu Street, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local government area of the state at about 1.30 p.m. following a tip-off.
“The suspect who confessed to the crime has been in the business overtime with her husband who evaded arrest on sighting officers of the NSCDC.
“The suspect specialised in the adulteration of GOYA Olive Oil, which was discovered after investigation to be the edible vegetable oil re-packaged into GOYA refilled bottle,” he said.
Dikuro, who spoke through the command’s Public Relation Officer,Supt. Rajunor Egbe, warned members of the public to desist from production of adulterated substances or face the wrath of the law.
The state commandant said that the corps was ready to collaborate with other agencies to stamp out criminal activities from the state.
He advised residents to ensure that they reported individuals who engaged in sharp practices that could pose threat to life of members of the community.
Some of the items seized from the suspect are two bags full of GOYA branded empty bottles, bottle cocks and three gallons of edible vegetable oil.
Dikuro said that the suspect would be handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation and prosecution.
