Police Promise Crime-Free Anambra
The Commissioner of
Police in Anambra State, Mr Hassan Karma, has reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure effective policing of the state for socio-economic activities to thrive.
Karma gave the assurance shortly after paying a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Peter Umeadi in Awka, recently.
He said that the command was ready to combat any form of crime that might arise, noting that the state had remained largely crime-free because of the police commitment.
The commissioner said that he was at the Chief Judge’s office to discuss with him issues affecting the state, describing the relationship between the Police and the Judiciary as cordial.
Meanwhile, the Anambra Police boss warned members, of the public against taking the law into their hands in expressing their grievances.
Adamu gave the warning in Enugu recently, when executive members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Enugu State Chapter, visited him.
The commissioner who was reacting to complaints of non payment of salaries by the union said that such actions hindered development in any state.
He advised the union to use dialogue and not confrontation in addressing its problems.
Earlier, the President of NULGE, Mr Kenneth Ugwueze, expressed dismay at the non-payment of salaries and other benefits to the council workers.
Ugwueze said their grievances included non-payment of salaries and leave allowances and the non-remittance of deducted union dues by some local government councils.
The president urged the state government to compel the council chairmen to also make payment of salaries a priority like it did.
The president told the commissioner that the members were threatening to use other means to express their grievances.
Ugwueze urged the government to take urgent steps to address the issues.
He thanked the police commissioner for receiving them and promised that the members would be law abiding.
