Man Donates N25m For Prisoners’ Care
A philanthropist, Mr
Godwin Ezeemo, has donated N250, 000 for the health care of inmates in Awka and Ekwulobia prisons in Anambra.
Ezeemo, who is the Anambra Leader of Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), made the donation while celebrating his 59th birthday with prisoners at the two prisons last Saturday.
He said that he decided to celebrate his birthday within the prison yards to share with the down trodden in the society.
He promised that he would continue to contribute to the welfare of the inmates.
“I feel fulfilled being here with you to celebrate my 59th birthday and also to know how you people are doing.
“I came with a message of hope that you can be the best.
“You can be learning any trade or handiwork here, you have chances of contributing positively to the society when you leave here.
“It is never the end of life, but a place to remould your character and refine yourself to become better and useful to the society,’’ he said.
Ezeemo assured the inmates and authorities that he would look into their demands and see the little he could do as an individual.
“I know and pray that it will not be long the Federal Government will remember these prisons and make it a real reformation centre as it is found in developed World,’’ he said.
The Anambra State Chairman of PPA, Mr Matthias Ameke, who felicitated with Ezeemo, thanked him for his humanitarian gestures in Anambra as well as his love for the less privilege.
Ezeemo received “Paul Harris Fellow’’ award from the President of Rotary Club of Awka Metropolis, Dr Dennis Ekemezie, at the Awka Prisons.
