Imo Demands Employment Quota In NBL, Others
Imo State Government has
urged Nigerian Breweries and other companies in the state to map out employment quotas for graduates from the state.
Governor Rochas Okorocha made the demand when the Corporate Affairs Adviser of the Nigerian Breweries and his team paid him a visit in Owerri.
He said an enabling environment had been created for corporate businesses to thrive and actualise government’s policy thrust on industrialisation and job creation in the state.
The governor was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu.
Okorocha said that the establishment of breweries plant at Awo-Omama was apt as government was poised to transform the state into the China of Nigeria.
He thanked Nigerian Breweries for its contributions to the development of the state through corporate social responsibility projects.
Okorocha assured the company’s management team that the state government would beef up security in Awo-Omama and its environs to help the company in its operations.
“Imo youths are knowledgeable enough; this is our opportunity to get them gainfully employed,” he said.
Okorocha promised to make a facility visit to the company and assured the team of government’s continued partnership.
Earlier, the Corporate Affairs Adviser of the Nigerian Breweries, Mr Kufere Ekanem, had said that their visit was to intimate the government about the operations of the company.
He said it was also to strengthen the relationship between the company and the state government after its merger with the Consolidated Breweries at Awo-Omama, makers of 33 bear and Hi-malt.
Ekanem recalled that the company had a long standing relationship with people of the South-East as far back as 1957 with a site located in Aba, Abia and Amah, Enugu State.
He said that the brewery was being scaled-up to world class to expand in infrastructure and corporate social responsibility.
Ekanem said the company had enhanced its social responsibility with the provision of solar water system and school within and around the host community.
He called for sustainable partnership with the state government.
“We operate in a very peaceful community and we are happy. “Safety is job number one and we know the Okorocha-led administration will continue to sustain peace and security in the state,” he said.
