The Abia State
Government has pledged its commitment to the realisation of the objectives of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the state, the Permanent Secretary, Abia Ministry of Health, Mr Agomoh Nwachukwu made the promise in Umuahia during a meeting with NHIS officials.
He said the state government had made plans to “go into partnership with the private sector to make it possible for more people to become beneficiaries of the scheme”.
Nwachukwu said that this would greatly help those in the rural areas to have access to quality healthcare with little amount of money.
He said that the state government, in its bid to establish an efficient health sector, would give the people of Abia the opportunity to receive proper healthcare service.
Dr Jonathan Eke, an official of NHIS, said that there were baseline criteria which made it the government’s responsibility to cater for the indigent through the scheme.
Eke said that this was done to ensure that no segment or person in the state was left out.
He said that the NHIS registration process had become modified and made easy through centralised registration with the help of modern technology.
Eke commended the Abia government for becoming “one of the frontline states that has passed National Health Insurance Scheme bill into law”.
