The Imo Command
of the Nigerian Prison Service has advised its officers and men to be proactive in the discharge of their duties by adding value to the system nationwide.
The state Controller of Prisons, Mr Ifeanyi Amaliri, gave the advice last Thursday at the decoration ceremony of its 60 newly promoted officers in Owerri.
Amaliri urged officers of the command to be hard working and dedicated to their assigned duties, in spite of the daunting challenges facing the command.
He urged the officers to see the new promotion as an opportunity to add more value to the services of the command.
He reminded the officers of the need to always discharge their duties in line with the principles guiding the service.
Amaliri said that the command would not tolerate acts of indiscipline from any officer and warned that the command would sanction any officer caught acting against the law.
“This promotion is a big opportunity for officers to show more dedication and hard work to the service.
“We should all join hands to see that the command grows from strength to strength and we will not tolerate any attitude that does not conform with the rules of the prison service.”
Among the promoted officers were the command’s Public Relations Officer, James Madugba, promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Prison (DSP).
He described his promotion as a reward for hard work and dedication to duty.
“I am not surprised that I am promoted today; but I am very grateful to the leadership of the prison service.
“I will do everything possible to justify the new promotion, and I urge my colleagues not to let the command down but to always render selfless services to the it”, he said.
