Emulate Late Nwator, VC Tells Academicians
Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Professor Barineme B. Fakae has called on academicians to borrow a leaf from the late Dr Friday Osaro Nwator.
According to him, Nwator in his life time contributed immensely t o the development of the Health Services Department and the University at large.
The vice chancellor, who was represented by Emeritus Professor Dagogo Fubara, gave the charge recently during a public health lecture in post humours honour of the late Nwator who was Director of Health Services in the institution for 18 years.
Speaking on the qualities of Nwator, the VC recalled that he was disciplined and hard working and “managed men and resources in a most dedicated manner”.
A brief profile of Dr Nwator revealed that he joined the services of College of Science and Technology (CST), Port Harcourt as a resident medial officer in 1973.
He rose through the ranks to become Director, Health Services Department in 1979.
When CST was upgraded by law to the first University of Science and Techology in Nigeria, he became the pioneer Director of Health Services in the University, a position he held till July 2000 when he retired from the services of the university.
Highlight of the occasion was the public lecture which was aimed at sensitising the public to attend a two-day free screening for hepatitis B and C.
