Group Calls For Revamping Of Delta Rubber Company
A socio-cultural
organisation, Etche Integrity Movement, has urged the Rivers State Government to revive the state-owed Delta Rubber Company Umuanyagu/Okomoko in Etche Local Government Area.
President of the movement, Raphael Echefu, made the call yesterday in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
He said the company appears to be abandoned because of very low business activities, noting that reviving the company will improve the economic earning of the state and provide employment opportunities for youths of the area.
According to the President, cultism and other anti-social activities involving youths could be reduced if the youths were engaged in meaningful economic activities.
He regretted that the company which was of high economic importance to the state years back provided job opportunities to thousands of youths of Etche land but pointed out that today, the firm has become a shadow of its past, and urged the state government to intervene.
Echefu stated that now that government intends to diversify from oil, agriculture provides an alternative economic base and stressed that revamping the rubber company would be of prime importance to the government and people of the state.
