NIMASA Denies Spending N2bn For Ex-Militants’ Hotel Bills

Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has denied spending a whopping sum of N2 billion on  former Niger Delta militants’ hotel bills recently as alleged in some quarters.
The Deputy Director, Public Relations (DDPR) of NIMASA, Mr Isichei Osamgbi who made the denial in a statement said the allegation was completely false and baseless.
Osamgbe further said there was no time that the Agency spent such huge sums of money to lodge ex-militants in some hotels in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos.
The Tide correspondent learnt that the allegation had been generating serious controversy between NIMASA and the Federal Ministry of Transport as the money was said to have been spent in the past four years.
The Minister for Transport, Idris Umar, it was gathered was furious over the allegation and might set up a committee to look into it.
Our correspondent also learnt that a senior official of NIMASA who disclosed the information said some of the ex-militants lived, dined and wined in their hotels for years at the expense of the Agency.
According to our correspondent, an official of one of the hotels in Lagos who pleaded anonymity hinted that the bills rose to over N2 billion because whenever the ex-war lords travelled, they went with the keys of their hotel rooms and returned to base after their trips.
He said NIMASA did not write to them when their guests would leave the hotels or when they would no longer be responsible for the bills.
Meanwhile, it was not clear if there could be any action taken as the agency was said to have denied the allegation.
