Town Planner Urges Support For FG’s Housing Policy
A Stakeholder in the
Housing Sector Mr Alfred Makinde has stressed the need for stakeholders to support the federal government’s efforts to provide affordable housing for Nigerians.
Makinde who disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt, while reacting to several issues on housing shortly after a forum agreed that several issues have confronted housing development in Nigeria, but that such can be tackled.
He said that partnership between public and private sectors would not only guarantee availability of housing finance, but would also enhance speedy housing delivery.
According to him, the mortgage sector should be looked at as a necessity for the success of the partnership, and the production of building materials, creating enabling environment in the area of building as well as ensuring vibrant primary mortgage market have to go hand-in-hand.
Makinde, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) said that there would be no secondary mortgage market without a vibrant primary mortgage market.
He said that the mortgage banks were facing challenges of how to design flexible products for potential house owners to help them achieve their goals of home ownership.
The Town planner also stressed the need to have the right people in terms of training and capacity in the development of the mortgage industry.
