Worriors Win 2014 FIRS Fiesta
Kaigama Warriors of FCT
in Abuja, dominated the medals table of the 2014 Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Sports Fiesta to emerge overall winners of the competition.
The competition also known as the “Mashi Cup’’ competition is in its 2nd edition.
It was organised by FIRS in honour of its Acting Executive Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Mashi.
Mr Henry Okonkwo, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Mashi Cup competition told Sports journalists that the competition was organised for all FIRS regional offices.
It featured various sports including Football, Table Tennis (male and female), Scrabble (male) and Chess (male).
He added that the competition was also to fish out talents that would represent the organisation at the forthcoming Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA).
A total of 10 FIRS regional offices took part in competition.
They are FCT (Kaigama Warriors), South East (Osy Tigers), Lagos Island (Bamidele Islanders), Lagos Mainland East (Ogungbesan Elephants) and North East (Hena Wolves).
Others include South South (Queen Lions), Lagos Mainland West (Ekundayo Eagles), North West (Auta Sparrows), South West (Amawhe Gunners) and North Central Region (Chiaka Leopards).
Kaigama Warriors of FCT topped the overall medals table with a total of two gold and three bronze medals.
Ogungbesan Elephants of Lagos Mainland East came second with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
While, Amawhe Gunners of the South West region settled for the third position with two gold and one bronze medal.
The finals of the football event which took place on the final day at the practice pitch of the National Stadium saw Amawhe Gunners defeat Auta Sparrows 1-0 to win gold.
Auta Sparrows took the silver, while Kaigama Warriors of FCT settled for the bronze.
In the Table Tennis Male Single Category, Liman Abdullahi of Ogungbesan Elephants won gold, while Kelechukwu Ubani-Ukoma of Bamidele Islanders and Lucky Baba of Kaigama Warriors of FCT took silver and bronze respectively.
In the Table Tennis Male Doubles Category, the pair of Abdullahi and Aderemi Agunloye of Ogungbesan Elephants won gold, while Ubani-Ukoma and Samuel Afolabi of Bamidele Islanders took silver.
Baba and Peter Okonmah of Kaigama Warriors of FCT settled for the bronze.
Also, Mnena Agum of Chika Leopards won gold in the Table Tennis Female Single Category.
Meanwhile, in the Scrabble event for all, Kaigama Warriors’ Sese Perewari won gold, while Ossy Tigers’ Kenneth Nwode and Oganla of Ogungbesan Elephants settled for silver and gold respectively.
In the Scrabble Female event, Chinelo Okpara of Ekundayo Eagles won gold, while Hajia Oganla of Ogungbesan Elephants took home the silver.
The Chess Blitz category saw Olugbenga Oloruntoba of Amawhe Gunners win the gold, while Abdulkabir Abass of Queen Lions and Bashir Abdul of Hena Wolves settled for silver and bronze respectively.
Also, the Chess classic category saw Sunny Ngei of Kaigama Warriors of FC emerge as winner, while Abdul of Hena Wolves took silver.
Abass of Queen Lions and Oloruntoba of Amawhe Gunners were joint bronze medal winners.
The Cup competition which began on Oct. 27 came to an end on November 3.
