NDLEA Seizes 94.5kg Cannabis In Onitsha Market
The National Drugs
Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has siezed 94.5 kilogrammes of cannabis from drug dealers at Onitsha main market in Anambra State.
The agency’s Commander in the state, Mr Sule Momodu, told journalists on Thursday in Awka that it was its “biggest” drugs siezure in the state this year.
The commander also said that 37 cartons of syringes used by drug addicts were also impounded.
He said, however, that owners of the drugs had fled and the agency had placed them on wanted list.
Momodu appealed for useful information from the public to effectively check the scourge of hard drugs in the state.
He annouced that a reward of N500,000 had been instituted by Gov. Willie Obiano for any useful information on those engaged in the production, distribution and sale of hard drugs in the state.
He commended the governor for his support to the agency, saying that the efforts are paying off with improvement in the business environment and trade in the state.
The commander pledged that the NDLEA would sustain the efforts to stop the sale and use of hard drugs in the state.
He warned politicians to stop encouraging the youth to take hard drugs in order to unleash mayhem on the public ahead of the 2015 election.
Momodu said the state government had commenced the construction of a N60 million modern drug rehabilitation centre, in Awka.
