The wife of Ebonyi
governor, Mrs Josephine Elechi, on Monday urged women to collaborate with security agencies to guarantee security of lives and property in the state.
Elechi made the plea in Abakaliki at a symposium organised for women to mark the 2014 Ebonyi Women’s Day celebration.
She said the programme would afford women the opportunity to acquire knowledge on different aspects of life.
“The campaign is part of the state government’s efforts to create conducive environment for the socio-economic development of the state through the involvement of women in the security network,” Elechi said.
She said that women in the state had recorded great achievements in various aspects of human endeavour.
“These achievements could not have been possible without unity among our women. There is need for our women to be united in their endeavours to achieve the desired development for the womenfolk,” Elechi said.
She urged the women to ensure effective use of the lesson they leant at the symposium to guide them in their future endeavours.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in the state, Lady Mary Umoke, said the theme of the symposium was “very apt owing to the security challenges in the nation”.
She said that women were veritable tools for any transformation agenda in Ebonyi and across the country.
“Women are powerful agents, mobilisers, vanguards for peacekeeping and conflicts resolution.
“Women are repositories of values with greater dispositions to adapt and adjust to any situation they find themselves,” Umoke said.
The symposium had the theme: “Women as Vanguard for Adequate Security in Ebonyi”.
