Vote Candiates Wit Divine Pedigree – Cleric
The Anglican Archbishop
of Enugu Province, the Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has urged Christians to support candidates with divine pedigree in the 2015 general elections.
Chukwuma made the call in Enugu while exchanging views with the Executive members of the Christian Forum for Governance in Righteousness, led by Rev. Chuks Alozie.
He said that the country would continue to witness bad governance, if men of goodwill continued to shy away from politics.
“We want those with divine pedigree to come into politics because bad governance will not go away until the right people are there.”
The cleric added that the time had come for Christians to participate actively in politics to ensure that God-fearing candidates were elected.
“Politics is a game of good governance and it is not bad. Only those playing it are bad.’’
Chukwuma said that Christians needed to provide a veritable platform that would enthrone honesty in the polity.
“We are praying for those in governance, but many of them are satanic because the platform that produced them is not divine.
“Nigerian politics is full of intrigues and it is actually difficult for the righteous to move ahead because there is no honesty of purpose.’’
The archbishop, who cautioned religious leaders against partisan politics for personal interests, urged them to pray for the righteous to emerge during the elections.
“Church leaders should use their positions to enthrone righteousness and sincerity in politics and not being prayer contractors and seeing unnecessary vision for their personal aggrandisement.”
Chukwuma also appealed to political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the mandate of Nigerians in the forthcoming elections.
Earlier, Alozie said that the group was seeking the assistance of Chukwuma in mobilising Christians to participate fully in politics.
“As a church, we have to get involved in the process of selecting those that aspire to lead us.
“We must identify with candidates with good policies because if the wrong people emerge as leaders, we will be in trouble.
“At this critical moment of our country, we must not sit on the fence because once we over-spiritualise and the unexpected happens, it will affect us negatively,” he said.
Alozie appealed to the electorate to pick their Permanent Voter Cards in order to vote for candidates of their choice.
“We must be enthusiastic about the electoral process instead of being apathetic to it.’’
