Rangers Dim Sharks’ Continental Dream

The chances of Sharks of
Port Harcourt securing a continental ticket next year have been dimmed after a 1-0 loss to Rangers in a Week 35 clash in Enugu.
Rangers and Super Eagles striker Ighodalo Osaguona scored from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after the referee ruled the striker was fouled on his way to goal.
“Officiating is a big concern for mostly away teams. With the season drawing to an end I sincerely would like to see better officiating because if the officiating was fair today, I don’t think we would have lost this game,” declared Sharks goalkeeper James Aiyeyemi.
Despite dominating the second half, Sharks could not find the equaliser, a result which leaves them in 10th place with 51 points.
On his part, Rangers coach John Obuh said his team were under pressure to win and he had to find a way to psyche his players for the remaining games of the season
“After getting three points away from home against Crown FC, my team was under pressure to win here in Enugu. And with the quality that Sharks possess I needed to do something extra to ensure we won,” he said.
“Because we need to keep winning our remaining games to be able to meet our target. But it was a very tough game and we thank God we got all the three points.”
Rangers now have 54 points from 35 games and are fifth on the table.
They have lost just once in their last nine games, a turn-around that has seen the team once battling against relegation and now within touching distance of earning a continental ticket.
