Eid-el-Kabir: Tourist Sites Record Low Patronage
Tourist sites in Badagry on Saturday witnessed low patronage of tourists.
The Tide correspondent, who visited the Badagry Heritage Museum, First Storey Building, Seriki Abass Museum and the Vkelete Slave Market, noticed that there was little or no turnout of tourists to the sites.
The Seriki Abass Museum, which usually witnessed large turnout of tourists during festive periods, was empty as there were no tourist in site.
A tour guide, Mr Anago Adeleke, blamed the low turnouts on the deplorable condition of the museum.
”The museum needs a major facelift in order to attract tourists because when people come here, they see the same old things over and over and this can be boring.
”Also, the building is in bad shape as the roof is almost blown away and this isn’t safe for tourists who come here.
”The Federal Government should give more attention to the museum because it can act as another source of revenue,” he said.
The tour guide for the First Storey Building, Mr Ezekiel Viavoni, also lamented the low turnout of tourists.
”I have only received two tourists today and that is so unusual because on festive periods like this, I usually attend to over 50 tourists.
“One of the reasons is because schools would resume immediately after the break, so it has affected the patronage,” he said.
