Fake Cell Phone Batteries Flood PH Markets
With Nigeria
ranking as one of the highest users of cell phones in the world today, the incidence of fake phone accessories flooding the Nigerian market could not be ruled out.
According to investigations carried out by our correspondent in parts of Port Harcourt, one of the most bandied phone accessories is the battery.
From Mile One to Garrison, and phone village, near MTN head office on Port Harcourt-Aba expressway amongst other locations, heaps of fake phone batteries are hawked daily.
Although the sellers claim the “originality” of the items, some members of the public who have patronised them say otherwise.
Narrating his ordeal from the fake battery sellers to our correspondent, Telema Elijah said he has bought three sets but as soon as they are charged, they packup.
According to him, the hawkers who were always on the move were difficult to locate even as he said even if you try to recognise them, they would deny.
For Dumnamene Duye, the solution lies with the public.
He said with common sense one should not buy such products that are displayed under the sun as they were sure to lose the little energy left in them.
He explained that such business was flourishing due to the fact that government agencies could not check the influx of such products into the country.
However, a phone shop owner at Garrison Bus Stop who spoke to our correspondent under condition of anonymity on the suspected fake battery sellers issue denied any collaboration with the hawkers.
According to him, he deals with the wholesalers who deal directly with the importers even as he claimed his products were recognised by the relevant government agencies.
On reports that phone dealers remove original accessories like power bank and sell separately to customer, he said the allegation was not true.
