Coach Morisson Dilli of
GT-2000 female basketball club of Kaduna has said that the club could be a force to reckon with if it had maximum support from the government.
Dilli told our correspondent in Abuja that support was imperative for the club to surpass its current performance.
“We appreciate the state government for trying to put in logistics for the girls, but we will appreciate if they can step up and do more. Honestly, for now, we are not too encouraged.
“Right now that our government is trying to encourage young people to stay off drugs, off the street, I feel if there is any way they can encourage us to eliminate this habit that people are coming up with, sports is the best thing.
The GT-2000 coach added that the club could only get better with encouragement to fortify the team to be stronger.
“ For me, I think we have actually put in more than we did before and I know that we can only get better.
“ We are just growing in it, every point in life you have to try. Next time we want to fortify the team by bringing some developmental programmes.
“But we look forward towards next year that it can only get better. We are trying to recruit players to beef up the team and to make the team stronger.
The club’s first appearance during the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League in the 2012/2013 season, they were seventh in a group of eight teams after the second phase of the league.
They failed to join the final eight teams’ playoff comprising the first four teams in each group to determine the league winner.
But in the 2013/2014 season, they were fifth in group A which had eight teams but still failed the final eight playoff holding in Lagos from June 12 to 22.
