Tennis Scribe Bemoans Poor Training For Athlete
The new secretary of the
Rivers State Table Tennis Association, Tekenah Lulu-Poku, has said that the team has not trained adequately for the year 2014.
He disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Tidesports at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt, recently.
Lulu-Poku explained that the break in training was due to the professional athletes who are expected to represent the state in the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged 2014 paradise Games” scheduled to hold in November this year.
“This is due to the decision of the National Sports Commission to make the competition open, which now gives the right to participating states to invite professional athletes to represent them in the games,” he said.
He, however, stated that the situation does not apply to other sporting bodies, adding that some associations do not have well-groomed and competent athletes on ground to represent the state.
Meanwhile, he noted that the team would go into first phase camping soon to further fortify their preparations for the task ahead.
“The team is yet to participate in any competition or intensive training by way of preparations for the fiesta except for individual training by the athletes” he said.
