Sanitation: RSESA Partners Public Primary Schools

Environmental Sanitation Authority, (RSESA) has restated his commitment to the sustenance of best practices in the enforcement of sanitation standards.
At a sanitation enlightenment meeting with public / primary schools in Port Harcourt, recently, the Sole Administrator of the Authority, Mr Ade Adeogun explained that the agency was creating avenues for reaching out to the people to ensure an effective waste disposal process.
He said it was regrettable that Port Harcourt had lost its garden city status adding that the meeting with the head teachers would help in restoring the garden city status of Port Harcourt.
The RSESA boss said, waste management was a symbiotic arrangement between the authority and the generality of the people, that sanitation matters should be given priority because people had to be alive in order to engage in other activities.
He said, statistics showed that people living in places like GRA were less prone to sickness than those who live in the slums and called for the planting of trees in schools and the forming of sanitation and green clubs.
According to him, school authorities could embark on tree planting campaigns in their host communities.
Citing the beauty of Calabar, he said Port Harcourt could be beautiful if all hands were on deck.
He said while children accounted for up to 90 per cent of the movement of waste from homes, it was important for parents and teachers to play their roles by directing them on the proper disposal of waste.
In an address, the Head, Public Affairs of the Authority, Mr Tam Konacrce emphasised the need for mentaining  a clean environment and said the meeting was an effort to ensuring  a clean environment.
He said in order to achieve results, children at the various schools should be engaged in sanitation activities under the close supervision of their head teachers. According to him, the RSESA would from time to time pay visits to public schools, adding that what was worth doing was worth doing well.
