RATTAWU Charges Members On Professionalism
The national leadership
of Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers’ Union (RTTAWU), has called on its members to exhibit high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
This was stated in a statement issued by the union’s President, Comrade Yemisi Bamgbose, and obtained by The Tide.
Bamgbose said the electronic media had a general responsibility to promote enabling and democratic conditions and atmosphere for the conduct of elections, stressing that the broadcast media must play their role effectively as the country approached another election year.
He urged the electronic media to report issues affecting the nation accurately, factually, fairly as well as provide enlightenment programme for the public.
The union boss said, the primary objective of the union now is to ensure that members skills are sharpened to provide more effective content to the public stressing that the broadcast media will through seminars and workshops, overcome some of the challenges the union is presently facing.
He said the challenges would be a thing of the past if broadcasters properly followed the guidelines and ethnics of the profession, adding that the union would soon organise workshops for its members in some parts of the country.
Bamgbose said members of the union have the responsibilities of disseminating information and enlightening the public through various programme presentations.
He said the union would partner with the various stakeholders having interrelated roles with the union to equip its members.
The union’s President said members of the union, as core professionals in the electronic media, have access to millions of people, through wave lengths, stressing that such opportunity significantly influences public perceptions and actions.
