Trader, 33, Faces Rape Charge
A 33-year-old trader,
Kazeem Alani, who allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment in a bid to rape her, was last Tuesday brought before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Alani, a resident of No. 39, Ogunsola St., Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a three-count charge of attempted rape, assault and resisting arrest.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the prosecutor, Insp. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 27 at No. 37, Ogunsola St., Abule-Egba, at 11.30 p.m.
“Alani, who is the complainant’s neighbour entered her apartment and tore her clothes in a bid to rape her.
“The accused also resisted arrest and fought the policemen who wanted to arrest him,” he said.
Ahonle said the offences contravened Sections 56, 134 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 28 for mention.
