Perm Sec Drums Support For Public Health Initiatives
Groups, individuals, as
well as corporate and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country have been urged to take part in the implementation of government health programmes.
The Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission in Abia, Mr Dennis Umesiobi, made the call at the inauguration of Partners of Good Health Initiative Nigeria (PGHIN), in Umuahia.
Umesiobi said that both the Federal and State Governments were taking necessary steps to address the health needs of the people.
“As individuals, corporate groups and NGOs, we have our own part to play.
“Whatever you do to help in the implementation of government’s health programmes, would help to save the life of another person.
“It could be the life of your relation or friend,” Umesiobi said.
In his speech, the Coordinator of PGHIN, Dr Peter Aguziendu, described the organization as “a medically-oriented NGO”.
Aguziendu explained that the group was formed to promote preventive, rather than curative health, among individuals, families and the society.
According to him, PGHIN “is all about healthy lifestyle and good health.
“It is all about achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria and Africa, in target time.
“It is all about life. It is all about you,” Aguziendu said.
