The South East zonal
rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ended in Enugu recently, with President Goodluck Jonathan assuring that the party would take over all the states in the zone come 2015 general election.   Jonathan, who stated this while addressing members of the party at the rally said; “from now, PDP will take over all the states in the South East zone. We have been magnanimous enough and cannot continue in that respect. We are here for unity rally”.
Reasoning that Nigeria is a great nation, president Jonathan claimed that “PDP is the only party that can provide the leadership needed by the people “.
Also speaking, the host Governor, Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, pleaded with President Jonathan to run for another four-year tenure, come 2015 general election.     According to him, “Our people have been meeting at various levels of our party and agreed to request you to run in 2015. Don’t disappoint us.
Also in his speech the Abia State Governor and chairman, South-East Governor’s Forum, Chief Theodore Orji, said, “we are making this call because you have shown the zone sense of belonging.
“PDP is the party that does not discriminate. Jonathan is the only president that can unify the country.
However, there is still uneasy calm in the Enugu state chapter of the PDP, as the protracted political battle between Governor Chime and the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has continued to divide the party in the state.
The sour relationship also came to the open Friday as supporters of the two warring personalites took differrent positions at the ultra- modern Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, venue of the rally  from where they demonstrated their loyalty to their factional leaders.
Ekweremadu who is backed by a group, “Save Enugu Group”, is leaving no stone unturned to avoid any form of defeat in the power-play which has succeeded in dividing the party into two warring camps in the state.
Many top members of PDP attended the rally including the national chairman of the party, Adamu Mau’zu, Vice President, Namadi Sambo,Senate president, David Mark, among others.
