Lawyer Seeks End To Boko Haram Terrorism
An Abuja based lawyer
and human rights activist, Barr. Samuel Akpenuun has called for an end to the Boko Haram terrorism in the Federal Capital Territory and parts of the north.
Barr. Akpenuum, who stated this on Monday while speaking with The Tide at the wake of the recent bombing in Abuja, noted that the security of human lives and property was of paramount importance.
He described the recent bombing as horrifying and sadistic.
Barr. Akpenuum remarked that the perpetrators of such dastardly acts would not go unpunished even if they escaped human punishment.
The Abuja lawyer suggested that no truce should be reached between the Federal Government and the terrorist group.
He said that the Federal Government should continue emergency rule in the states prone to Boko Haram activities.
Barr. Akpenuun urged the Federal Government to explore options under the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act 2013 to continue to exercise emergency powers in the North Eastern states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.
According to him, “at the height of Boko Haram activities in the Nigerian nation-state, we cannot afford to allow emergency rule to lapse, it will be suicidal”.
He called on the National Assembly to extend the emergency rule so that peace would not continue to remain elusive in parts of the north and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Barr. Akpenuum also described the onslaught of Boko Haram as a shame and called on the perpetrators to quit.
He called on both federal and state governments to support the fight against Boko Haram as terrorism did not do anybody good.
