A lecturer in sports man
agement, Ademola Onifade, last Wednesday appealed to the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to sufficiently motivate the Super Eagles for the World Cup.
Onifade of the Lagos State University (LASU) told newsmen in Lagos that the players should be provided with the necessary tools to enable them to perform maximally at the quadrennial tournament.
“The NFA must endeavour to provide all that the players will need to perform well; give them all that they are entitled to and would need.
“Stephen Keshi should be transparent in his selection of players devoid of favouritism or bias,’’ he said.
The lecturer also said that the coach should be provided with good assistants to form of a complete management team.
“It’s not just the coach that makes the team better, the other people involved like the physiotherapist, sports therapist, administrators, nutritionist and others have to also be at their best.
“Generally, the coach must have good assistants from all over to be able to make a big impact in the World Cup,’’ he said.
On the approval given to players to take their spouses to the World Cup, Onifade said the development would be psychologically good for the players.
“There is nothing wrong in having their wives around during the competition as long as they are not in the same camp.
“They can be around but not sleeping in the same place as that can be a distraction; but it is good and it can be a good psychological motivation,’’ he said.
Nigeria is grouped alongside Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran in Group F.
