Anambra Plans Expansion Of Immunisation Coverage
Governor Willie
Obiano of Anambra State says his administration will strive to expand the scope of immunisation in the rural communities.
Inaugurating the April 2014 National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) at the General Hospital, Umuleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, Obiano said that effective healthcare delivery was critical in his policy thrust.
The governor said that rural roads would be reconstructed and special boats provided to give the health personnel and donor agencies easy access to difficult terrains and the hinterland.
He said the government would build on the achievements of his predecessor whereby the state was declared the best in immunisation coverage in the country.
Obiano urged parents to take advantage of the exercise to protect their children against killer diseases.
The governor promised to provide infrastructure, equipment, facilities and drugs in hospitals as well as build doctors’ quarters to ensure effective healthcare delivery to the people.
He said the government would also promote training and retraining of doctors and other health personnel as well as support medical students in their studies.
The governor expressed dismay at the deplorable state of the General Hospital, Umuleri and directed the health commissioner to provide the necessary requirements to rehabilitate it.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, said the state would sustain the efforts to improve the health sector.
Akabuike urged the people to support the government in protecting and maintaining health facilities in their localities.
The Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Hillary Udano, said the area was disadvantaged because of its difficult terrain and appealed for more government interventions.
