Stakeholder Wants FG To Give Rural Farmers Cassava Stems
Given the impor
tance of cassava in the agricultural food chain of the country, a big time cassava farmer, Madam Alice Alali, has called on the Federal Government to make cassava cuttings available to the rural farmers.
Alali who made the call in an agric event in Abua Central recently said since cassava was a major raw material in the bakery industry, the government should not relent in making improved varieties of cassava available to farmers.
She said an aggressive agric policy should be pursued in order to ensure positive results in output.
Explaining further, she said the various Agricultural Development Programmes (ADPs) in the country should be put to maximum use so that the rural farmers would benefit from their expertise.
“Let the ADP be used adequately to enlighten farmers on new techniques in cassava production at the grassroots,” she said.
Also speaking, another farmer, Miss Glory Wariboko called on the government to make available soft loans to enable rural farmers expand their farm sizes.
She said this would go a long way in enhancing the Federal Government’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA).
