Federation Plans Academy For Female Cricketers

Federation (NCF) has said that it would soon establish an academy for female cricketers, as a way of developing the sport.
The Technical Director of the NCF, Olisa Egwuatu, said this in an  interview with newsmen in Lagos recently.
Egwuatu said that the academy, to be sited in Abuja, would have been extended to other states if not for inadequate funds.
“Our plan of having an academy for female cricketers is meant to ensure that female cricket develops in the country.
“We want to use it as a means of engaging them not only in the theoretical, but also the practical aspect of the sport.
“Although, we have the desire to run it in various states, funding the academies will be a challenge,” the technical director said.
He told newsmen that at least three cricketers would represent each state of the federation at the academy.
“I do not expect any state to miss out from the opportunity to be part of the academy because it will go a long way in improving their cric-keters”.
The senior male cricket team participated in the World Cricket League Division 5 in Malaysia but could not be promoted to division 4.
