Catholic Women To Honour First Lady

thedral of the Catholic Family here in Port Harcourt will on Sunday March 31, 2014 be graced with a momentous occasion which will no doubt be laced with glitz, glamour and razzmatazz of “who’s who in Rivers State and beyond, as the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women Organization (DCCWO) Port Harcourt honours Her Excellency, Dame Judith Amaechi, the wife of the executive governor of Rivers State, with an award of Distinguised Ambassador of Christ.
The occasion, which is expected to be presided over by the Bishop of the Port Harcourt Diocese, Camelius Etukudoh is part of the activities designed to mark the 2014 mothering Sunday.
According to a release from the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Organisation (Port Harcourt), the choice of Her Excellency, Dame Judith Amaechi for the honour, was in recognition of her unparalleled commitment to women economic empowerment and early child’s educational initiative, which is aimed at “Grooming the child to grow up a better and responsible adult.”
Meanwhile the 2014 Mothering Sunday of the Catholic family in Port Harcourt was officially flagged off on March 16, at the diocesan level, with a lecture titled “Quality Motherhood: – Unflinching Faith in God” delivered by Lady Calista Ezeaku. Ever since, the various parishes had carried out charity visitations to the sick and down-trodden among the membership.
A seminar at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) with novelty match between the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) and Catholic Men’s Organisation (CMO) also held on March 21, 2014.
Unlike other Christian denominations, the Catholic celebrate their mothers during the feast of annunciation and this took place at the Corpus Christy Cathedral, Tuesday March 25 with a Holy Mass, march past by all the eight deaneries, cutting of the mothers’ day cake among others.
Sunday will therefore, provide a plateform for a thanksgiving unto God for a successful Mothers’ Day Celebration in the various parishes.
It will be recalled that 9 years ago, Her Excellency, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Aamechi, recieved an award from the World Union of Catholic Women Organisation (WUCWO) in recognition of her contribution towards the empowerment of women and education of children of the poor, among others.
