Okorocha of Imo State has announced that the Mbaise campus of the Imo State University (IMSU) would commence this month, to actualise the university’s multi campuses project.

Okorocha who made this known last Monday in Owerri in his address to mark the 38

thanniversary of the state also announced that work would soon commence at the College of Education, Technical, in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Council.

He said the decision was part of the government’s efforts to give education its pride of place.

Okorocha used the occasion to render an account of his stewardship and attributed the successes recorded by his administration to God and support of the Imo people.

He noted that among the numerous achievements recorded by his administration, the best was the restoration of the faith and belief of the people in government.

“What has made Imo State great today is that people can now trust and believe the government,” he said.

The governor thanked the House of Assembly members and the traditional rulers for their support and for identifying with his vision of placing the state on the part of progress and development.

He commended the Community Government Council (CGC) and announced that CGC elections would hold before the end of February.

In his speech, the Speaker, Imo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu, recalled the joy that heralded the creation of Imo in 1976.

Uwajimogu noted that one of the foremost governors, Chief Sam Mbakwe, provided the bedrock for the development of the state.

He added that Okorocha, through his people-oriented programmes, had not only transformed but also restored governance to the state.

Uwajimogu said that there are visible projects in every nook and cranny of the state, adding that the latent potential of the 537 communities in the state had been unlocked through the CGC.

He called on the Imo people to join hands with the government to foster development in the state.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Theodore Ekechi, said the celebration of the state’s anniversary provided the government an opportunity to take stock of its development in the past two and half years.

He said the event would equally afford government and the people of the state an opportunity to redress those imbalances arising from the failures of the past.

Ekechi expressed optimism that Imo would experience a complete turn around before the end of the present administration.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri, thanked God for the peace and level of progress witnessed in the state since its creation in 1976.

He commended the efforts of past Imo leaders and extolled Okorocha for his free education programme, massive road construction and extensive infrastructure development.

The royal father used the opportunity to appeal to all political aspirants to be guided by the principle of service and fairness.
