Iwofe Residents Charge PHED On Steady Power Supply
Residents of Iwofe Community
in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, of Rivers State, have called on the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) to maintain the improved power supply in the area in order to promote business growth.
Some of the residents, who spoke with The Tide last Friday, said that although the power supply has not been at its best, there has been great improvement compared to what was previously on offer.
One Joy Ehude, said that before now, they could stay up to a forth night without power.
She noted that the situation nearly changed the mentality of some of the dwellers over the presence of power supply companies in the country.
She added that they now ration power in the area, noting that they can boast of 10-12 hours power supply per day when the sharing formular favours any area.
Others have called on the PHED, to increase the power up to 20 hours, saying that the 12 hours system was not helping issues.
They also described as irritating, the scenario where the power company disconnect their cables at the end of every month when there is a major revenue drive.
According to them, such practice was not only barbaric but against humanity.
The narrated how the power firm could stay close to 21 days before reconnecting the cables even after the defaulters had paid up.
Our reporter, reports that the PHED at Iwofe is putting some finishing touches in some of its equipment as the guarantee the people 24-hours power supply.
